September brings cooler temperatures and new memories as the season changes from summer to autumn. As summer winds down and the leaves change to rich and vibrant reds, oranges and yellow colours, you may feel inspired to change up your decor in your home.
Many people live for the warm colours of fall, and wish to capture its essence in their homes year round. This is certainly possible, and we will show you how!
There are many new design trends this fall, which add creative flair and warmth to your home in surprising ways. Here’s what’s trending this fall:
Neutrals
Colourless design trends are really striking a chord in design this fall, with textures and shape making an impact. In the design world, white on white (and variations of colours similar to white, such as beige) are becoming popular, as they give the room a clean, fresh look.
The Curated Look
The curated look is considered one of the biggest design trends this fall, and simply involves displaying your favourite pieces in your home like a curator in a museum.
It’s a mixture of modern elements mixed with quirky collectibles and items that carry personal value. This look combines modern and vintage to create a unique space. This is great for those of you who dislike modern looks because they come across as cold.
This look works best incorporated with layers, so add multiple pieces of art or textiles in an array of colours and patterns. Don’t be afraid to add texture to your space. The easiest way to achieve the curated look into your home is to hang multiple pieces of artwork “salon-style” as a gallery wall.
Tip: the curated look works best when your walls are coated with a fresh coat of paint. Even the most elegant artwork can’t distract from dull walls!
This look also extends farther than accessories, and includes furniture as well. Don’t feel that everything has to match, as this look embraces creativity and eccentric style. It helps to gather three to five pieces that you really enjoy, and plan out how you want them to look in your room. Re-configuring new and existing pieces allows the opportunity for unusual pairings - in a good way!
High Contrast/Patterns
A mixture of dark and bright accent pieces are popular this fall. Having darker walls and incorporating bright pieces of artwork can really make an impact on a space. You can invigorate your decor inexpensively with bright pillows, ottomans and throw blankets. It truly perks up a space to add a pop of colour!
For those adventurous in design, patterns are making their mark this fall with patterned wallpapers, carpets and bedding to go for that bold look.
