Liven Up Your Laundry Room

The following post: Liven Up Your Laundry Room was available on http://ift.tt/2a1nIIz

Laundry rooms are rarely considered the focal point of a home. They are generally tucked away and hidden out of sight. Many people don’t realize that a laundry room can be a highly functional space that meets all your organizational and design needs.

Organization

Some homeowners view their laundry room as more of a transient room, meaning they complete the chore of dirty laundry and then leave. While this may be its main purpose, transforming it into a utility room enables you to maximize the space. Instead of washing, drying and walking away, why not add some additional functionality like storage and spacemakers?

For example, rather than leaving your delicate garments to dry in your bedroom or bathroom, create a hanging space for them. The key is to create space by adding shelving or hanging units.

If you’re doing laundry for a big household, you can take your organization one step further by labelling a laundry basket for each family member.

Another tip is to store cleaning supplies in here. If you have an existing closet in this room, installing shelving units or hanging studs can be a great way to organize your supplies and your brooms, mops, etc.

Let There Be Light

If you find your laundry room to be dark and depressing, lighten it up! Adding a fresh coat of paint (or a new colour) will brighten the room. Also, adding light fixtures can add a decorative, functional touch.

Even adding a colour scheme can make a huge impact on your space. Keeping your containers in a matching colour scheme increases organization while adding a decorative flair. The best part is all of these materials are inexpensive and can be found very easily.

Accents

Wall art is a fantastic way to add vibrancy to any space. Family photos are a nice touch, as are framed prints. To add to the theme of clothing, why not shadowbox some outfits that aren’t cycling through the laundry anymore? This can be old onesies, old sports uniforms, or any other clothing items. Not only are they great memories, they’re one-of-a-kind decor pieces!

Alternatively, you can find some charming wall pieces to add some flair to the space. Be sure to incorporate your personality into the space and truly make it your own.

The laundry room is often a drop off spot for dirty, sweaty clothes, so we suggest incorporating fragrant florals here and there to create beautiful focal points and eliminate any unpleasant odours. Lilacs and hydrangeas are known to have a calming effect, and add a vibrant pop of colour.

Lastly, an accent wall really adds the sense that the laundry room is, well, a room! Adding a pattern to one wall will draw the attention there, so if you’d like that to be the main focus of your room, we recommend putting the pattern on that wall.

Who says laundry rooms need to be cold, dark and hidden away? Any space can be beautiful, and laundry rooms are no exception. Don’t be afraid to use vibrant colours and unique decor pieces to liven up that space!
