Hello, Fall! New Season, New Trends

The post: Hello, Fall! New Season, New Trends was published from Devoleigh Homes Blog

As much as we hate to admit it, summer is quickly coming to a close. With the Labour Day weekend only a few days away, it’s hard to accept the fact that summer is almost over.

But don’t be too disappointed! We welcome the bonfires, cozy clothes and the beautiful hues of fall. A new season also means new design trends. Check out our top fall trends:

Relaxing Retreats

We live in an age of an abundance of digital technology, where we are on our phones, tablets or computers for a large chunk of the day. This trend is all about having a technology-free space, to serve as an intimate retreat (similar to the Wi-Fi free spaces you find while on holiday). Most people choose the bedroom as a place to unplug and unwind, surrounding the sleeping space with curtains or canopies, or adding a comfy reading chair to the room.

Brass Accessories

In our spring trends blog, we talked about the rise of popularity of copper accessories. This season, brass has replaced copper. Brass accessories stand out best against darker coloured furniture.

Extending The Outdoor Season

One thing we will miss about summer is the ability to be outdoors as frequently. Just because fall is upon us doesn’t mean we have to hibernate indoors! People are adding fire pits or outdoor heaters to their patio sets, allowing them to spend as much time outside as possible. To get a fall look, upgrade your planters, throws and rugs with fall coloured themes and textures. Consider adding a fall wreath to create an inviting, cozy space.

High Contrast/Patterns

A mixture of dark and bright accent pieces are popular this fall. Having darker walls and incorporating bright pieces of artwork can really make an impact on a space. You can invigorate your decor inexpensively with bright pillows, ottomans and throw blankets. It truly perks up a space to add a pop of colour!

For those adventurous in design or seeking a bold look, patterns are making their mark this fall with patterned wallpapers, carpets and bedding.

The Curated Look

The curated look is considered one of the biggest design trends this fall, and simply involves displaying your favourite pieces in your home like a curator in a museum.

It’s a combination of modern elements mixed with quirky collectibles and items that carry personal value. This look combines modern and vintage to create a unique space. This is great for those who dislike modern looks because they come across as cold.

This look works best incorporated with layers, so add multiple pieces of art or textiles in an array of colours and patterns. Don’t be afraid to add texture to your space. The easiest way to achieve the curated look in your home is to hang multiple pieces of artwork “salon-style” as a gallery wall.

Tip: the curated look works best when your walls are coated with a fresh coat of paint. Even the most elegant artwork can’t distract from dull walls!

The curated look also extends to furniture. Don’t feel that everything has to match, as this look embraces creativity and eccentric style. It helps to gather three to five pieces that you really enjoy, and plan out how you want them to look in your room. Re-configuring new and existing pieces allows the opportunity for unusual pairings - in a good way!
