Keep Your Home Clean All Winter Long

The blog post: Keep Your Home Clean All Winter Long is republished from www.devonleighhomes.com/about/blog

Winter brings its own set of cleaning challenges with salt, slush, snow and mud being tracked indoors. As long as you know the right tricks, it’s not difficult to keep your home looking clean and beautiful. A clean house will also keep you healthy and happy.

Protect Your Entrances

Waterproof floor mats placed at each doorway will help prevent salt and snow from getting inside your home. Go one step further and provide exterior mats for family and guests to wipe their feet on before stepping inside and taking off their boots.

If you have dogs or cats that venture outdoors, keep a towel by the door. That way you can wipe their paws before letting them in the house.

Dust Away Those Bunnies

Homes get very dusty in the winter because the air is so warm and dry. Dusting often can help reduce the number of germs floating around your home, as well as help your furnace run more smoothly.

Don’t forget to dust:

  • Tops of ceiling fan blades and chandeliers

  • Tops of doors, mirrors and shelve

  • Window sills

Replace Furnace/HVAC Filters

Replacing furnace filters is extremely important to the proper performance of your HVAC system, as well as your home's air quality. To maintain optimal indoor air quality, change the filters once every two to three months. If you have pets, it’s a good idea to change every 30 to 45 days.

Keep Your Floors & Carpets Clean

Having a good mop on hand helps keep floors clean and germ-free around entryways. By keeping that area clear of salt, slush and dirt, you’re protecting the rest of your home interior.

Vacuuming often is particularly important during the winter months, since it helps to keep your home fresh and remove any tracked in salt and dirt that managed to sneak its way passed your entryways.

Make Your Windows Shine

If you have a fireplace, ash and soot can create a build-up of dust in your home, particularly around windows and sills. Keeping your windows clean removes this dust build-up and makes your home look brighter during those dark winter days.
