Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring (Cleaning)!

The post: Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring (Cleaning)! was published from Devoleigh Homes

This spring cleaning checklist goes over some of the more common home areas that could use freshening up, as well as some others that are not so obvious.

Spring Cleaning To-Do #1: Safety First

This is the perfect opportunity to check the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Perform all required safety checks.

Spring Cleaning To-Do #2: Keep Your Home’s Air Clean

Replacing furnace filters is extremely important to the proper performance of your HVAC system, as well as your home's air quality. To maintain optimal indoor air quality, change the filters once every two to three months. If you have pets, it’s a good idea to change every 30 to 45 days.

Spring Cleaning To-Do #3: Wash Windows

Clean windows with a rag and soapy water, ensuring to dry with another rag for a clean finish. Using a windshield squeegee is also a great hack for cleaning windows and eliminating streaks.

Spring Cleaning To-Do #4: Don’t Overlook Anything

At least once a year you should give your baseboards, door frames and walls a good clean. Wash them with a sponge and a bit of dishwashing liquid mixed in a bucket of warm water.

Spring Cleaning To-Do #5: Don’t Forget to Look Up

Ceiling fans are often neglected when it comes to cleaning. Remove dust and dirt from ceiling fans and air-conditioner vents with a damp cloth or a vacuum with a soft nozzle attachment.

Spring Cleaning To-Do #6: Clean the Carpets

You can either call a professional carpet cleaning company or do this yourself. If the weather will allow it, open the windows to speed the drying process.

Spring Cleaning To-Do #7: Clean Under Furniture & Area Rugs

Enlist the help of a capeable friend or family member to move your couch, coffee table, chairs, area rugs, etc. followed by a thorough cleaning of the floor/carpet underneath.

Spring Cleaning To-Do #8: Bedrooms

Go through drawers and closets. Donate anything that you don’t use anymore or haven’t worn in over a year. Wash blankets, comforters, bed skirts, pillows and mattress pads. Depending on the material – or ease of washing – you could have these items cleaned professionally.

Spring Cleaning To-Do #9: Bathrooms

We’re sure you clean your bathroom more than once a year, so spring is the time to go through cabinets and toss old or expired products, such as medicine and cosmetics. If you haven’t done so recently, give that shower curtain a wash.

Spring Cleaning To-Do #10: Kitchen

Enlisting the help of a capeable friend or family member again, move your kitchen appliances away from the wall as much as possible and then give the area a thorough vacuum. Don’t forget to vacuum the cooling coils under or behind your refrigerator. To clean stainless steel appliances, use gentle cleaners or a steam cleaner to avoid scratching.
